Pioneer SX-828 Stereo AM/FM Receiver

Pioneer SX-828 Stereo AM/FM Receiver, scarce Champagne faceplate and matching knobs.

Fully restored in August 2025. We use ONLY high quality audio grade parts, ordered at Mouser. No corner cutting to save a few bucks.

What was done:

Both filter capacitors have been replaced/upgraded to Cornell Dubilier 8200uF 75V (original caps are 8000uF 50V) with the same diameter to keep the original design and screw terminals (wiring/soldering reliability). Costly now, $54 / pair.

Power output transistors were replaced with Onsemi MJ21195G/MJ21196G

New Omron relay was installed to improve reliability.

ALL electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with audio grade Nichicon UPW, UKL, WIMA and Kemet film caps (<= 4.7uf) All tired resistors and diodes have been replaced with Onsemi, Fairchild. Many noisy and tired transistors were replaced: ALL power board, amp, preamp and AMX board. LED lamp upgrade to warm blue. Bias and DC Offset adjusted to specs. A carefully selected audio-path transistor replacement with the same hFE brought us the following perfectly matching measurements after restoration (see the last photo): first channel = 23.26v, second = 23.27v and output: Channel 1: 67.63 W RMS Channel 2: 67.68 W RMS into 8 ohm. It's officially rated at 50 W/channel. Exterior conditions: Faceplate. The front side is in perfect condition, but top of the faceplate has scratches. Pictured in macro mode. Wood. The main wood cabinet has a chip on the right side. Top side is perfect. Reconditioned with a walnut finish. Comes with a speaker plug pair.
