Pioneer SX-828 Stereo AM/FM Receiver

Pioneer SX-828 Stereo AM/FM Receiver.

Fully restored in October 2025. We use ONLY hiqh quality audio grade parts, ordered at Mouser/DigiKey. No corner cutting to save a few bucks.

What was done:

Both filter capacitors have been replaced/upgraded to Cornell Dubilier 8200uF 75V (original caps are 8000uF 50V) with the same diameter to keep the original design and screw terminals (wiring/soldering reliability). Costly now, $54 / pair.

Power output transistors were replaced with 100% matching hFE Onsemi MJ21195G/MJ21196G pairs.

New Omron relay was installed to improve reliability.

ALL electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with audio grade Nichicon UPW, UKL, WIMA and Kemet film caps.

All tired resistors and diodes have been replaced with Onsemi, Fairchild.

Many noisy and tired transistors were replaced: ALL power board, amp, preamp and AMX board.

LED lamp upgrade to cool white.

Bias and DC Offset adjusted to specs. New 25-turn Bourns trimpots make it pretty easy.

A carefully selected audio-path transistor replacement with 100% matching hFE brought us the following perfectly matching measurements after restoration (see the last photo): first channel = 22.16V, second = 22.40V and output: Channel 1: 61.38 W RMS Channel 2: 62.77 W RMS into 8 ohm. It’s officially rated at 50 W/channel.

Exterior conditions:

Faceplate. The front side is in perfect condition like 10/10, but the top of the faceplate has light imperfections, not visible from the front view. They are pictured in macro mode.

Wood. The top wood cabinet/cover is almost perfect. Reconditioned with a walnut finish.

Comes with a speaker plug pair.

Every restored unit has a full burning day at medium volume in FM mode.

Will be double boxed and fully insured for shipment.
